Optics and Optoacoustics

The Optics and Optoacoustics research team is a recently established group that focuses on the study and development of advanced optical materials and optoacoustic technologies. Our mission is to create new and innovative ways to manipulate light and sound waves for a variety of applications, including sensing, imaging, and aerospace.

Our research includes the optical characterization of novel materials, such as photomobile materials and photonic crystals, as well as the development of optoacoustic techniques for sensing and contactless optical manipulation in standard and microgravity conditions.

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the fabrication and optical characterization of optical materials, as well as for optoacoustic measurements. We also have a strong collaboration with other research groups, both within our institution and at other institutions around the world such as:

  • CNR, Institute of Heritage Science, Sesto Fiorentino, Italy
  • URT-CNR, Università di Camerino Polo di Chimica, Camerino, Italy
  • Department of Physics, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, United States
  • Department of Applied Physics, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, Amity University, India
  • Dipartimento DII, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy
  • Dipartimento DIISM, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy

Our research team is composed of young students and highly qualified and experienced scientists and engineers, who are committed to advancing the field of optics and optoacoustics through cutting-edge research and innovation. We welcome any inquiries and collaborations in our field of expertise.

Prof. Lucchetta received his PhD in Physics from Università degli Studi della Calabria (Italy) and his Degree in Music from Conservatorio di Musica Stanislao Giacomantonio located in Calabria and has since worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at several institutions including the Max Planck Institute in Germany, and the National Institute of Physics of Matter and CNR in Italy.

His research has been recognized by nearly 100 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals in the field of optical materials and optoacoustics and holds several patents for his inventions.

As the head of the Optics and Optoacoustics Laboratory, Prof. Lucchetta leads a team made of young students and of highly qualified and experienced external scientists and engineers who are committed to advancing the field of optics and optoacoustics through cutting-edge research and innovation. Under his leadership, the researcher’s team is becoming a leading research team in the fields of Optics, Acoustics and Photonics, with a strong reputation for its high-quality research and impactful contributions.

Prof. Lucchetta is the organizer of the Advanced Course in Engineering of Musical Instruments (https://www.univpm.it/Entra/Didattica/Corsi_di_Perfezionamento_offerta_formativa/Ingegneria_degli_strumenti_musicali_2021_2022) and coordinates the activities of 16 internationally renowned teachers and top class musicians.

Personnel

The Optics and Optoacoustics Laboratory is a relatively young laboratory composed of a diverse team of personnel which, at time of writing, includes undergraduate students and expert external scientists and engineers. Undergraduate students in the laboratory have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research by assisting in the synthesis, characterization, and fabrication of optical materials, as well as in optoacoustic measurements. They also have the opportunity to work with and learn from external collaborators and professors who are experts in the field and guide them in their research projects. The laboratory works also in collaboration with top class musicians and with a number of expert external scientists and engineers, who are invited to collaborate on specific projects, or to give lectures, workshops and other activities that can benefit the laboratory research and education.

Overall, the personnel of the Optics and Optoacoustics Laboratory are a diverse and highly qualified team of individuals, dedicated to advancing the field of optics and optoacoustics through cutting-edge research and innovation.

The research team is composed by:

  • Prof. Lucchetta Daniele Eugenio (PhD,) Head of the Lab
