Progetto PNRA19_00064 “GIAVA”
Il progetto ha lo scopo di valutare il ruolo ecologico dei microorganismi marini antartici provenienti dal Mar di Ross. In particolare, saranno studiate le interazioni tra virus e loro ospiti (procarioti e microalghe) sia nel ghiaccio sia nell’acqua attraverso metodi molecolari e di microscopia. Inoltre, sarà valutato l’effetto dello scioglimento del ghiaccio, dovuto ai cambiamenti climatici, sulle interazioni tra virus e i loro ospiti e sulla composizione delle comunità del ghiaccio e dell’acqua.

The aim of project is the evaluation of the ecological role of Antarctic marine microorganisms from the Ross Sea. In particular, the interactions between viruses and their hosts (prokaryotes and microalgae) both in ice and in water will be studied through molecular and microscopy approaches. Furthermore, the effect of ice melt due to climate change on the interactions between viruses and their hosts and on the composition of ice and water communities will be evaluated.
