The research activity encompasses different aspects involved in the hydrogeological risk analysis (flood, landslides, pollution and erosion), water resources evaluation by means of quantitative techniques (hydrogeological surveys, tracer and isotope hydrology), testing of new tracers for hydrogeological applications, fluvial dynamics and hydrology, isotopes and their variations in the hydrological cycle, quality of groundwater resources in coastal plains in relation to salinization processes induced by anthropogenic activities and climate change, characterization and monitoring of contaminated sites through multidisciplinary techniques (hydrogeological, geochemical and modeling), leaching of agricultural fertilizers and their modeling in saturated and unsaturated porous media.
Specific attention is paid to the methodological innovation (in particular concerning the development and experimentation of new techniques in tracer and isotope hydrology) and the application of numerical models to several fields of hydrology and hydrogeology (i.e., flow and solute transport in saturated and unsaturated media).
